Strength and Robustness of Protein Materials

چکیده
The use of classes of materials has been used to classify stages of civilizations, ranging from the Stone Age more than 300,000 years ago, to the Bronze Age, and possibly the Silicon Age in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. However, a systematic analysis of materials in the context of linking chemical and physical concepts as well as the understanding and manipulation of nanostructures for engineering applications has not been achieved until very recently. This area of nanoscience and nanotechnology led to many breakthroughs and new technological developments. The fi eld of biology is probably one of the best examples for nanotechnology “at work” [1], since virtually all structures and materials found in biology feature nanoscale dimensions, often integrated in hierarchical patterns that

How protein materials balance strength, robustness, and adaptability.
Proteins form the basis of a wide range of biological materials such as hair, skin, bone, spider silk, or cells, which play an important role in providing key functions to biological systems. The focus of this article is to discuss how protein materials are capable of balancing multiple, seemingly incompatible properties such as strength, robustness, and adaptability. To illustrate this, we rev...

Watermarking systems have specific feathers in accordance with their applications. In many applications transparency and robustness are needed which are the most important features. These two features are in contrast to each other and are controlled by a parameter named watermark strength. With decreasing the watermark strength, transparency of the watermarking system increases while the robust...
متن کاملAlpha-helical protein domains unify strength and robustness through hierarchical nanostructures.
Hierarchical nanostructures, ranging through atomistic, molecular and macroscopic scales, represent universal features of biological protein materials. Here we show for the case of alpha-helical (AH) protein domains that this use of molecular hierarchies within the structural arrangement leads to an extended physical dimension in the material design space that resolves the conflict between disp...

Background and Objectives: ANGPTL4 is a messenger protein that plays a role in regulating glucose and lipid metabolism. The aim of this study was to compare the effect of two personalized low volume-high intensity and combined (strength-aerobic) exercises on Angiopoietin-like protein 4 (ANGPTL4) protein serum levels in women with type 2 diabetes. Materials and Methods: In this clinical trial,...
متن کاملPrediction of Mechanical Properties of TWIP Steels using Artificial Neural Network Modeling
In recent years, great attention has been paid to the development of high manganese austenitic TWIP steels exhibiting high tensile strength and exceptional total elongation. Due to low stacking fault energy (SFE), cross slip becomes more difficult in these steels and mechanical twinning is then the favored deformation mode besides dislocation gliding. Chemical composition along with processing ...
متن کاملBond energy effects on strength, cooperativity and robustness of molecular structures.
A fundamental challenge in engineering biologically inspired materials and systems is the identification of molecular structures that define fundamental building blocks. Here, we report a systematic study of the effect of the energy of chemical bonds on the mechanical properties of molecular structures, specifically, their strength and robustness. By considering a simple model system of an asse...
